Hermann Fuechsel was born in Brunswick, Germany, in 1833 and became a pupil of Carl Fredrich Lessing in Düsseldorf before departing for New York City in 1858, where he lived the rest of his life. In the 1860s, Fuechsel was showing his work at various venues including the National Academy of Design, Brooklyn Art Association, and at galleries in Philadelphia, New York, Boston, and Berlin, Germany. He was elected a member of the Artist’s Fund Society. His works can be viewed in the collections of the Hudson River Museum, Walker Art Center, Wadsworth Atheneum, and New-York Historical Society
